Our Mission Statement
Chico First Christian Church is an inclusive, loving community of believers in Jesus Christ who wish to explore and follow his teachings. We strive to provide opportunities to freely develop our faith through worship, Christian education, fellowship, and pastoral care.

The Holy Spirit guides us in our personal and congregational outreach and mission where we proclaim the good news and serve in Christ's name. We work for peace as embodied in the person of Jesus Christ We help ourselves and others fulfill God's calling by discovering wholeness in our daily lives putting faith into action.
An LGBTQI Inclusive Church
FCC Chico is a church that believes every person is someone of dignity and worth--just as you are. LGBTQI persons are welcome at our church. Not only welcome but also celebrated. Pastor Jesse is deeply committed to justice around sexual orientation and gender identity.

Let our actions speak for us. We have been happy hosts for Trans Awareness Week training with Stonewall Alliance Center in Chico in 2016-2017, and we are looking forward to partnering again in 2018. Our queer members of the church are loved and accepted. So are our non-queer members.

Our Pastor would love to speak with you if you have any questions about this.

About the Disciples of Christ
First Christian Church is part of the denomination called the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This denomination is located in the United States, Canada with new churches in the Congo. Disciples congregations vary in style across the world, but one thing you'll find in most churches is a commitment to unity and justice. You'll find Disciples being peacemakers in local neighborhoods, serving in soup kitchens, building homes, and working to bring people of all faiths together.

Below are some of the common practices that you will find in most Disciples churches around the world.

What Disciples Practice
  • Open Communion: The Lord's Supper or Communion is celebrated in weekly worship and it is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ. He invites you, and everyone is welcome at The Table
  • Biblical Faith...Thinking Faith: We love the Bible and take it seriously using both our minds and our hearts in a life long journey of understanding the way it calls us to live out our faith daily. Don't leave your brain at the door.
  • The Oneness of the Church: All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common witness and service.
  • Freedom of Belief: Beyond our central belief that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, there is no creed or doctrine. Each person is free to follow their conscience guided by Bible study, the Holy Spirit and prayer. We are expected to extend that freedom to others. Those with doubts and questions are respected.
  • Baptism by Immersion: In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside and a new, ever-growing life of trust in God begins. Baptism is into the whole Body of Christ, thus, although Disciples baptize by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored.
  • The Priesthood of All Believers: Disciples believe in the ministry of all believers, both ordained and lay persons. You will see men, women, and youth serving in all phases of church life.
  • God calls us to a life of mission: All of creation is a gift from God. Our voices of justice, mercy and peace must be boldly spoken to those powers that would stand in the ways of God's resources being shared equally. We commit our time, talent and money to such a mission.
  • Covenantal Relationships: Each congregation is autonomous but we choose to be related as a distinctive denomination in a covenant of passion and compassion to carry the Good News of God's love in Jesus Christ to all the world.
