Sacred Grounds Adult Christian Education Discussion Group This group combines bible discussion with current events and occasionally reads books together. They meet Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in the Bethany room. No preparation needed -- all are welcome to drop in for discussion.
Starting Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 6, we will be offering “Church 101,” a class designed for those new to the faith, new to our church, or anyone interested in why we do what we do at First Christian Church. It will be a five-week class that takes us through Lenten Season, and yes, we’ll explain what Lenten Season is! These are just a few of the things we’ll cover over the course of five weeks:
February 22 – Big Changes – Why did the early church spread so quickly? What was going on outside the church to help the movement grow? What were “church councils” and how did they shape church tradition?
March 1 – Traditions – How has the church adapted to other cultures’ faith and practice? What is the “church calendar?” Why do some churches practice some traditions but not others? What is the value of tradition in worship?
March 8 - Why So Many Churches – Why do we have so many denominations, and where did it all start? How many of them survived?
March 15 – The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) – How did we get started as a movement? What are some of the unique contributions of our church to Christianity? Where do we go from here as far as our mission and witness are concerned?
