Adult Christian Education
Sacred Grounds Adult Christian Education Discussion Group
This group combines bible discussion with current events and occasionally reads books together.
They meet Sunday mornings at 8:30 am in Room 6 and on Zoom. No preparation is needed -- all are welcome to drop in for discussion.
Bible and Book Studies
FCC Chico and CFBC currently hold joint Bible Study classes. Classes are generally held in First Christian Church’s Zoom and Room 6 OR at Chico First Baptist on their Zoom and in their sanctuary or fellowship hall, on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome!
Past studies have included a book study on Michele Norris’ book Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Think About Race and Identity, a book study on Alan Wolfelt’s book Understanding Your Grief, a bible study on Kings of Israel, a bible study on the book of Revelations, a bible study on “First Isaiah” based on the New Interpreter’s Bible study by Mary Donavan Turner, one of our Disciples preacher/scholars who was a professor of preaching at Pacific School of Religion and Berkeley, bible studies on wisdom literature, and Rev. Gail Hill of Chico First Baptist led a bible study of Jesus and the Prophets.
Bible study resumes Thursday, February 26, and it’s Pastor Jesse’s turn to lead. It’s Clobberin’ Time! is a seven-week introduction to hermeneutics—the art and practice of interpreting Scripture.
Sound boring? Not when we’ll be wrestling with passages often used as theological weapons: Women Should Be Silent, Homosexuality Is an Abomination, and Prepare For the Rapture!
If you’ve ever wondered how Christians read the same Bible and come to wildly different conclusions, this class is for you. Bring your Bible—and maybe a helmet.
Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in Room 6 at First Christian Church and on Zoom.
