Biblical Study on Wisdom Literature

(Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job, Wisdom, Psalms, and a parable or two from the NT)

Wednesdays, July 10-Aug 21 at 6:30 pm

Chico First Baptist (sanctuary)

Each of the genres in the biblical canon speak to different ways of discerning the will of God. For example, the Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) reveals the will of God through the law. The prophets deliver the word of God, thereby revealing God’s will. The wisdom literature (Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job) sees God’s will as given to us through creation itself.

Wisdom speaks, “The Lord created me (wisdom) as the beginning of God’s work, the first of God’s acts of long ago…before the beginning of the earth.”  Prov 8:22-23

July 10             Introduction to a Wisdom Worldview

July 17             Proverbs (Prologue)

Jul 24              Proverbs (What they teach us)

July 31             Ecclesiastes  (Rescue from bad press & re-establish its realism)

Aug 7              Job (Intro to Theodicy)

Aug 14             Job (Innocent Suffering)

Aug 21             Wisdom in the NT (Parables)
